Spotlight on sheep production A free one-day conference focusing on maximising sheep production on Northland farms will draw together some of the country’s best sheep expertise at Barge Showgrounds Conference Centre, Whangarei on February 23.High profile sheep and cattle vet and national spokesperson for the WormWise programme, Trevor Cook, AgResearch Invermay researcher and technology transfer specialist Dr David Stevens and sheep researcher Professor Paul Kenyon, will each present alongside a variety of local experts. Their specialty knowledge encompasses animal health, nutrition and management, including parasite management, grazing lucerne, winter grazing management of sheep, hogget rearing, lambing, shearing policy and the effects of Body Condition Score. Organiser Aaron Meikle of Beef and Lamb New Zealand says it’s a unique opportunity for sheep farmers. “These three gentlemen in a room together is an opportunity no sheep farmer should miss. They are practical and they'll be there over a cup of tea to talk one on one as well.” All are welcome to attend the farmer levy funded event expected to start at 10.30am.
