Non-intrusive cosmetic surgery, which can provide health as well as appearance benefits, is now available at the Rodney Surgical Centre in Warkworth.

Rodney Appearance Medicine is owned and managed by Susan Durney, a cosmetic nurse specialist who works under the auspices of plastic surgeon Dr David Crabb.

“Being closely aligned with a plastic surgeon means I can give people information about the treatment options available for their particular issue,” she says. “This helps us tailor the service to the person’s needs and budget. It’s a very individual service.”

Susan says concerns with skin issues on the face or neck make up the bulk of her enquiries. These are usually the result of ageing, and sun damage in particular, but can also be related to smoking, pigmentation and stress, which all contribute to the creation of wrinkles and folds. She also offers treatments for headaches including migraines, and excessive sweating.

Some treatments may require only a lunchtime appointment, while issues such as pigmentation and deep lines may require two or three sessions. While in some cases the effects are immediate, in other instances the benefits can take three to seven days to be noticeable.

Susan says injectable treatments such as Botox and Juvederm can enhance the face naturally with aesthetic and natural-looking results.

“As we age, we particularly lose volume from the cheeks and lower face areas. Treatments such as dermal fillers can achieve subtle and effective anti-aging effects that are even and very natural looking.

“The treatments are mostly painless and don’t leave any telltale signs of the work.”

Rodney Appearance Medicine also offers a range of skin care products or cosmeceuticals, which are supplied exclusively through plastic surgeons and specialists, and complement Botox and dermal fillers.
