Artists needed for market

At-market-JPGTwo local artists are behind a new Art Market designed to bring the Coast’s creative people, and their work, out of their studios and into the public eye.

The market, which begins next month, is an opportunity to introduce the public to your artwork and to sell pieces, as well as meeting other artists and craftspeople.

Potter Mac Treliving and artist Anna Evans came up with the idea during a brainstorming session prior to Christmas. The market will be based in and around Mac and Anna’s Art Lab studio in Whangaparaoa Hall.

It will include hands-on activities, such as the opportunity to have a go at potting something on the wheel as well as pots, paintings, jewellery and carvings for sale. Currently Anna and Mac are seeking expressions of interest from any artists who are interested in having a free stall.

Anyone creative can take part.

“It would be great to develop and encourage younger people who are making their own clothes or jewellery and can use the market to sell their work,” Anna says. “Being an artist can be a bit isolating, but this could get a bit of a buzz going locally.”

The market will be held on the first Sunday of each month, starting on March 3.
