
Six sitting members of Rodney District Council have been elected to office in the new Auckland Council, under the Mayoralty of Len Brown.
At the Ward level, Michael Goudie and Wayne Walker will represent Albany, and Rodney Mayor Penny Webster will represent Rodney Ward.
As results in the local government elections rolled in, successful Rodney and Albany ward candidates celebrated their win at the polls. Local Matters talked to the candidates live on election day.

In total, 542 candidates are contesting the 170 vacancies on the new Auckland supercity – 23 for mayor, 100 for council and 419 for the local boards. In Rodney, there are four candidates for the Rodney Ward and 21 for the Rodney Local Board.
The Rodney Ward will be represented by one councillor. Some of the candidates are well-known campaigners such as Rodney Mayor Penny Webster and Auckland Regional Council councillor Christine Rose. For others, such as Tom Ashton and Vince Pereira, this is their first foray into politics.
The Albany Ward will be represented by two councillors on the Council. The Ward also includes two subdivisions - Hibiscus & Bays and Upper Harbour. The candidates for the Albany Ward and Hibiscus & Bays subdivision are listed here. Profiles will be added in mid-September.
