Warkworth Subdivision - Jim Visser
I first stood for local council and the ARA at the age of 24, but unfortunately family demands took precedence. I have lived and worked in Warkworth for 45 years. Now aged 64, and more mature and wiser, I am able to serve the community at this very important time of change with the amalgamation into the new Auckland Council.
If elected, my priority will be to ensure that the interests of the Warkworth Subdivision, as part of the Rodney Ward, are protected and advanced within the new greater Auckland Council. I want an all-encompassing approach to issues both rural and urban. Particular issues that concern me include: • Rates – The ever-escalating rates, irrespective of economic conditions, has to stop. • Rural rates – These should reflect the production or potential production of the land and not be based on its relative location i.e. beaches or towns. • Less red tape – Bureaucracy that does not lead to production is a waste and is counterproductive. • Cost control – Introduce robust cost control mechanisms with checks and balances and accountabilities. • Development – We now have a great opportunity to enhance the future development of this area. I want to see well-planned development for the benefit of the community within a long-term strategic plan. I feel positive about the role local boards will play in the new structure. It will provide them with the opportunity to make real local progress and take control of their destiny if they, the Community Boards, take the authority and responsibility to implement their visions, within the frameworks of the new political structure. |
