Warkworth Subdivision - Steve Garner
The major changes being instigated by the integration into the Supercity will require people with skills which are very different to what worked in the old system. Now is a great opportunity for someone new to get involved, learn how the new system is going to operate and be in the best position to represent the interests of Warkworth, one of the greatest places in the country to live.
I want to ensure this area is “heard” and that we get the best outcomes for Warkworth. I will listen to the people and ensure that we get what we want and need. The area needs population growth management and the absolute best use of the resources to enhance and preserve the character of our area. Warkworth needs cohesion, structure, consistency and best use of resources. It has a unique and valuable character, as do Matakana, Omaha, Leigh, Mahurangi, Sandspit, Puhoi, and Kaipara. These areas attract quite diverse groups of people which is part of what makes our area so great. We need to ensure that this is maintained and the people who come here have options to live and work. Growth will place pressure on resources – schools, sports facilities, libraries, halls etc. We need to ensure that these are available and accessible and also affordable. Rates need to reflect the services appropriately and not spiral out of control as has happened in the past in some areas. Also the state of our roads and some of our infrastructure is an ongoing issue, as is the development of the Warkworth town centre with the constraints of the Mahurangi River and SH1. |
