Call 0800 Auckland City

Auckland City ratepayers who live outside Auckland’s toll free zone have access to a free number to contact the new Auckland Council.

Head of communications Shelley Watson says Albany Ward residents should call 09 301 0101 to access the Council free of charge. She says it acts like an 0800 number by recognising when calls are from an Auckland address which is outside the free calling zone.

Meanwhile Leanne Smith of Destination Orewa Beach is seeking an extension of the free calling zone to the Hibiscus Coast. Mrs Smith says landline toll charges from the Coast to Auckland are a major stumbling block for local businesses.

“This issue needs to be addressed immediately to enable our community to become part of Auckland,” Mrs Smith says.

Mrs Smith says she has highlighted to Mayor Len Brown that Manukau has toll free calls to Auckland.

“I’ve asked Mayor Brown to investigate this issue to ensure that the Hibiscus Coast gains toll free calls to Auckland. Resolving this will help create unity between Auckland’s communities.”

The Mayor’s office advises they are looking into the issue.
