Retired dairy farmer James Colville, of Worthington Road, has nominated for Wellsford’s seat on the Rodney Local Board. If elected he will join three members from Warkworth, one from Dairy Flat and four from Kumeu on the local board.
Mr Colville is currently Rodney chair of Auckland Federated Farmers and a trustee of the Northland Rural Support Trust, which helps farmers deal with adverse conditions, such as this year’s drought. He and wife Dallas farmed at Tauhoa for 35 years and have three children and one grandchild.
Current Rodney District Northern Ward representative Grahame Powell has decided not to stand for election to the Super City, preferring to devote more time to his farm and family after 12 years representing Wellsford and surrounding districts.
“I’m not very happy about the proposed function of the local boards and I don’t see the job being as interesting as the one I’ve had as councillor,” he says.
He’s looking forward to a well-earned holiday.
“I’ve really been at the beck and call of the public all my working life, and while I’m not complaining, now’s the time to enjoy some recreation and take our first holiday for more than 12 years.”
