MahurangiDouble your dollarsDonors wanting to double the impact of their cash for Canterbury can consider backing Mitre 10’s Big Help Card campaign, donating in store or online with their contributions matched dollar-for-dollar by the retail chain. Warkworth Mitre 10 owner Cam Caithness says his store is happy to handle customer contributions. Online, people can choose to donate Big Help cards in denominations of $20, $50 or $100 at www.mitre10mega.co.nz/bighelp/. Puhoi books in fundraiser Booklovers will be able to bolster Christchurch coffers while bagging some bargains at the Puhoi Historic Library annual book gala at Puhoi Farmers Market on Sunday April 24, from 10am-3pm. Library spokesperson Ruth Cunliffe says there’s something for everyone in the eclectic range of reading material donated to the library and hundreds of bargain books will be on sale. The library will also run a sausage sizzle alongside their stall opposite Puhoi Store. All proceeds raised will go directly to the Red Cross Earthquake Appeal. Canned food wanted Warkworth Resene ColorShop is joining Resene stores around the country in collecting canned food to help feed Christchurch during the earthquake recovery period. Canned food donations can be made to the store at 29 Glenmore Drive during its normal business hours (Mon-Fri 7.30am-5pm or Saturday 9am-1pm). Resene will arrange weekly deliveries to Christchurch in conjunction with the Salvation Army. Enquiries: Phone 422 2150 Furniture needed for rent-free respite Mangawhai Beach School is offering a Christchurch family rent-free respite in a vacant school house but needs community help to furnish it. Living Way Christian School, Wellsford Are making cards with wishes of sympathy and support, and will be sending whatever donations families may care to send via the school. “The Christchurch earthquake has been a sobering reminder of the frailty of our lives.” Hunters helping out Warkworth owned and operated company Gamegear is helping out fellow hunters and fishermen in the Canterbury Region by donating 10% of all its internet sales through its website to help with Earthquake relief. Harcourts Warkworth Through The Harcourts Foundation the Tandem Realty Teams throughout our six offices are working on the best way to make a donation to the people in Christchurch. Hospice Warkworth Wellsford Hospice has lit a candle in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to the quake. Cruise contributes cash A cruise on the Jane Gifford organised by a group of Warkworth friends on March 2 has raised $2450 for the Christchurch Earthquake Fund. Thanks to the Jane Gifford Trust for the free use of the vessel. Boost for Christchurch Hospice Crowds of people swarmed to the Hospice Warkworth Wellsford garage sale held on Woodcocks Road on March 16, helping to raise around $3000 for Hospice Christchurch. Hospice fundraising coordinator Lesley Ingham says the Christchurch Hospice has not only suffered from considerable building damage and liquefaction but is struggling to meet normal fundraising targets because of funds being diverted to general earthquake appeals. HibiscusFundraiser a big stretchYoga teacher Natasha Rainger raised nearly $600 for the Red Cross Christchurch earthquake appeal by holding a public yoga class and selling Yoga for Christchurch t-shirts last month in Orewa. The class was to have been on the beach, but the 27 participants decamped to Orewa Community Centre because of inclement weather. Bookworm offers raffle Twelve-year-old Savanna Manning raided her shelves to supply three cartons of books for a raffle to raise funds for earthquake relief in Christchurch. The books are at Never Ending Books in Orewa, which belongs to Savanna’s grandmother, Annie Pretorius. Annie says the books include an excellent collection of Goosebump titles. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each and Annie hopes to sell 100 before the raffle closes on Easter Monday. One Piece for Christchurch The gala opening of an exhibition at Estuary Arts Centre next month is being held as a fundraiser for Christchurch. The opening of One Piece takes place on May 5, 6pm–8pm. Tickets are $15 with all ticket proceeds donated to the earthquake relief fund. The opening will feature a live jazz band, wine and nibbles. All pieces in the show will cost $200 or less and the show closes on May 29. The performance is on April 23 at Whangaparaoa College auditorium. Tickets cost $20 per adult, $10 concession and can be purchased from 1 Brightside Rd (10am–6pm) or by phoning 424 8084. Hibiscus Coast Netball Centre Are holding a pre-season Junior Tournament at its courts on Edith Hopper Park in Manly on April 9. The tournament is for Year 58 teams only. The entry fee of $50 per team will all benefit the people of Christchurch. Volunteer umpires are needed. Registrations close April 1. Info: hbcnetball@live.com Animates Silverdale Animates is asking New Zealanders to give generously for the pets of Christchurch to support the work of pet welfare agencies in Christchurch to save, treat and reunite pets. Donations can be made in Animates stores. It is not known exactly how may pets have been lost, abandoned or injured following the earthquake, although nearly 800 pets – mainly cats – have already been reported missing in Christchurch.The organisations will also use funds to care for pets surrendered by people who have been made homeless by the quake. Destination Orewa Beach Leanne Smith says businesses are offering to donate a portion of their profits to the earthquake appeal. As a result, there is a move to organise a fundraising concert on the Coast. Leanne is helping coordinate this and anyone who wants to get involved can phone her on 426 2638. Manly Care Chemist Owner Tania Adams says the Pharmaceutical Society of NZ is coordinating pharmacists, GPs and nurses to provide assistance, as pharmaceuticals are desperately needed in Christchurch. Tania expects local chemists will deploy staff to Christchurch in the next few weeks. Neverending Books Anne Pretorius of Never Ending Books in Orewa has donated 10 percent of her takings from Thursday to Saturday last week to the Christchurch Earthquake appeal via the BNZ. Ann's granddaughter has offered a box of books to be raffled with the proceeds to go the same route. Orewa Care Chemist A staff member has grown and potted up a number of herb seedlings and they've available for a $1 donation, which is going to the Christchurch earthquake relief fund. Rafting proceeds Half the proceeds of the Stillwater Raft Race on Sunday March 13 were donated to Christchurch relief fund. Schools rally: Whangaparaoa College Two Year 9 students, Brendon Carr and Ben Sutcliffe, are planning to hold a raffle and are asking local businesses to sponsor prizes. Gulf Harbour School’s mufti day on February 25, raised $1089; Kingsway School mufti day and coin trail that covered a chalk design of a church and the word ‘Christchurch’ raised around $5000; Orewa College collected more than $6026 from its students and staff on February 28 and money is still coming in for its Cash for Canterbury appeal; Orewa North Primary held a red and black dress up day as part of an effort organised by the Auckland Primary Principals Association which last year raised $40,000. They raised $592 and will continue holding a red and black fund raising day each week for the next few weeks; the Orewa Primary mufti day raised $550 and the school will hold a mufti day every week for the next month to raise funds; Red Beach School held a mufti day; Stanmore Bay School mufti day and coin trail raised $1030; Stella Maris School raised $1400; Wentworth Primary & College both held red and black mufti days; Whangaparaoa Primary raised around $1400; Centrestage On March 17, Centrestage Theatre put on a special charity performance of Jesus Christ, Superstar at its theatre in Centreway Rd, Orewa, with proceeds going to Christchurch earthquake relief. Hibiscus Coast Plunket Plunket is redirecting any funds raised during March to the Canterbury earthquake fund. Lions Clubs Members in New Zealand and around the world are donating money to the disaster relief, with more than $50,000 pledged to the Salvation Army and City Mission within the first few days.

Warkworth Wellsford Hospice says ...
Our weekly garage sale at Hospice House on Wednesday, March 16, will be a very special fundraiser. We will donate all the proceeds from that days sale to the Christchurch Hospice, which operates under the name Nurse Maude. Their buildings were badly damaged in last months earthquake and staff are struggling to keep the service running. We are asking local residents to look around the house, garage and garden and see if theres anything you can live without. We will be grateful for any clean, quality furniture, tools, toys, machinery, household appliances, clothing, linens, art, bric a brac and sports gear. If youre willing to donate something to this worthy cause, bring it to Hospice House on the corner of Woodcocks Rd and Morrison Drive between 9am and 4pm on Monday or Tuesday March 14 & 15, and we will add it to the garage sale on Wednesday. Ring Hospice House on 09 425 9535 if you need us to collect goods from your place. Thanks to our communitys ongoing generosity, our garage sales often raise $3500 for your hospice - lets see if we can raise a whole lot more for Nurse Maude.

Hi there. Whangaparaoa Primary School had a Mufti Day on Monday Feb 28th, and raised about $1400. This may be going to a school affected by the Earthquake. They have also taken on 4 Pupils from Christchurch who are homeless.There are more coming. Whangaparaoa College is having their Mufti Day on Friday to raise Funds. Dr Cecil Antony from Whangaparaoa Medical Centre has gone down to assist in Christchurch for the whole week.
