Highway project frustrates landholders

Landholders along the indicative route of the proposed Puhoi to Wellsford ‘road of national significance’ are becoming increasingly frustrated at the uncertainty surrounding the project. Wyllie Road resident Joel Dickson says the highway will go through the middle of his house.

PM says highway upgrade on track

Government support for a four-lane highway between Puhoi and Wellsford, known as the “holiday highway”, was restated by Prime Minister John Key in Warkworth on June 3.

Motorway drives wedge of uncertainty into Wellsford

Landholders around Wellsford are calling on the NZ Transport Agency to speed-up the release of their final plans for the motorway north of Warkworth. One farmer said that uncertainty was “hampering on-farm development” for those east of the town.

Residents turned out in large numbers to view the proposed route of a new four-lane highway, between Puhoi and Warkworth.

Warkworth gets northern access - Puhoi gets none

The proposed route of a new four-lane highway, between Puhoi and Warkworth, will run to the west of the current highway, does not include an access for Puhoi and places the Warkworth access in the vicinity of Kaipara Flats Road.

Highway bypasses Warkworth

Under the indicative route released by the NZ Transport Agency, the next access on SH1 after Orewa, travelling north, will be Warkworth.  The access will be sited north of the town, near Kaipara Flats Road.

Consultation timetable

Comments on the indicative route will be accepted up until January 28. Find out when the public information days will be held.

Safety first for State Highway 1

Increasing safety and reliability between Puhoi and Wellsford needs to be the New Zealand Transport Authority’s (NZTA) immediate priority, not a new motorway the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) confirmed on August 11.

Around 250 residents from the Puhoi, Ahuroa and Mahurangi West area voted unanimously to fight any plan to deny them access to a new State Highway 1.
