Development Phases
The prospect of a road of this magnitude being built and speculation about the route can be unsettling for people, especially property owners.
For this reason, the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) will be providing regular updates on the phases of development including how to have your say on the possible route. Click here to go to the NZTA website for more information. In the meantime, here is an outline of the plan: www.nzta.govt.nz/network/projects/puhoi-to-wellsford/ Phase 1Your opportunity to have your say (mid 2010 – late 2011*)The first phase of the project is starting soon and involves detailed investigations of a possible route. This will include investigating the social impacts; Tangata whenua and the cultural impacts; property and ecological impacts; geotechnical and topography considerations; connections to the local roading network; walking and cycling access; cost, constructability and timing; as well as identifying ways to speed up the project, which may include tolling. It also involves consultation, and the NZTA will be hosting presentation days and sending out information to get your feedback on the route options and the likely impact of each. If you wish to receive updates, please email NZTA’s Community and Stakeholder Liaison Manager, Amanda Cosgrove at Amanda.Cosgrove@nzta.govt.nz Phase 2Preparing reports — NZTA’s turn to do some work (late 2011 – mid 2012*)Once the NZTA has talked to the community and assessed feedback they will decide on a preferred route and will complete detailed reports on the likely impacts of it. These reports will support the NZTA’s resource consent application to build the road.Phase 3Consent hearing —getting the green light (mid 2012 – mid 2013*)As part of the statutory process, all interested parties will have an opportunity to submit submissions to the relevant authority on the preferred route. Depending on the authority’s decision, the road can then be constructed!Phase 4Preliminary Design — finding the right people to build it (mid 2013 – mid 2014*)NZTA will prepare a design brief based on the consent conditions set by the authority so that contractors can tender for the project.Phase 5Design and Construction – the hands on stuff! (mid 2014 – 2022*)This is when you will see actual construction works. Depending on the final road design, the work may be done in sections and opened at different stages.*indicative dates only – subject to change |
