Rotary Club providing farming fun
A new event organised by the Rotary Club of Orewa offers a chance for city slickers to spend a day on a working farm.
The Family Country and Farm Day is being held on a 161 ha Wainui property that is run by a Rotary member. This property has been owned by the Lloyd family since 1854. Selwyn Lloyd, who runs the farm will sheer a sheep every hour, there will be demonstrations by a trained sheep dog and police dogs, and woodchoppers will wield their axes. Vintage cars will be on display and there will be fun races with prizes including vouchers from sponsors Kings Plant Barn. Organiser Tom Lees says a kauri tree believed to be the biggest outside the Waipoua Forrest can be seen via an easy 20-minute walk. Entry costs $5 for adults, children under 10 years free.
