
Mansion House, on Kawau Island, is falling into disrepair after years of neglect and the finger is being pointed squarely at the Department of Conservation.
Kawau Island Residents and Ratepayers Association member Maxwell Edkins is calling on Auckland Council to take over the management of the Mansion House Reserve, which includes the adjoining copper mine chimney, before it is beyond repair.
The Crown and Ngati Manuhiri have signed a Deed of Settlement for all historical Treaty claims. The agreement, worth $9 million, includes the return of six culturally significant sites including 1.2 hectares of land on Hauturu (Little Barrier Island).
