
Progressive Enterprises has been granted resource consent to build a supermarket in central Warkworth.
The matter was New Zealand’s first direct referral to the Environment Court and two weeks were set aside for the hearing, which started on June 14. However, Judge Jeff Smith issued an oral decision on June 15 after opposition from National Trading Company (Foodstuffs), Perrendale (Neil Barr) and Rodney District Council was withdrawn.
The Naval inshore patrol vessel HMNZS Rotoiti responded to a mayday call on Tuesday June 15; a tug was on fire north of Cape Rodney. Rotoiti was at anchor in the Hauraki Gulf conducting a Naval training exercise when the Rescue Coordination Centre requested assistance to the mayday call.
Rodney District Council’s last-ditch effort to become a unitary authority, in the form of a local bill, seems destined to fail and has been described by Green MP David Clendon as “a tremendous waste of time and effort”.
