Motorists are being asked to slow down and take extra care when traveling between Puhoi and Warkworth as work ramps up on the 18.5km extension of the Northern Motorway.
More trucks and construction vehicles are using State Highway 1 as the Northern Express Group progresses work on the motorway extension.
Logging operations are hitting high gear, site offices are being established and earthworks continue, meaning that more trucks and 4WD vehicles will be entering and leaving the construction site.
Northern Express group chief executive Ray Wilson asks motorists to reduce their speed and take care, particularly when approaching areas where traffic enters and exits the work site.
“We are working with Auckland Transport and the NZ Transport Agency, to ensure appropriate traffic control measures are in place to protect the public and the construction team.
We ask motorists to take note of the traffic controls in place, drive to the conditions, and take extra care when using the Moir Hill Road/SH1 intersection,” Mr Wilson says.
The Puhoi to Warkworth project is the first stage of the Puhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance that will extend the Northern Motorway to four lanes north from the Johnstone’s Hill Tunnels to a tie-in with the existing SH1 north of Warkworth.
It will be open by late 2021.
