Dargaville’s Aidan Gent, 21, beat seven other finalists to become the northern region’s Best Young Farmer at an event held in Wellsford last month.
He’ll now progress to the final of the National Bank Young Farmer of the Year at Palmerston North in July. The cream of Northland’s young farmers battled it out over a series of practical and theoretical challenges, agri-sport competitions and a quiz before Auckland university student Aidan was declared the winner. Runner-up for the second consecutive year was Reuben Carter, from Whangarei. Marty Roest, from Kaiwaka, was third. The northern regional final was the third of seven to be held around the country to decide the line-up to contest the national final.
