Alpaca farm gates hold open dayParticipating locally will be alpaca breeder Valerie Bushell who farms at 739 Silver Hill Road, Wellsford. About 35 alpacas will be on display at her farm ranging from white through to fawn, grey, brown and black. Alpaca fibre and products will also be on sale from the farm shop. “The aim of the day is to educate people about alpaca farming, the beautiful fibre alpaca produces, and the end products being manufactured here in New Zealand” industry spokesperson Hermione Richards says. “We are overwhelmed by the support of the NZ alpaca breeders, who have volunteered their farms and time for the day.” There are about 12,000 alpaca in NZ, which are farmed for their fibre or kept as pets.
