
The young and not-so-young gathered at Mangawhai Beach School on March 27 to celebrate 125 years of education in the district.
Former students and teachers travelled from throughout NZ, as well one guest from Australia, to attend the reunion which included a bus tour of the district, a formal dinner and church service.
The anniversary cake was cut jointly by Cooper Lay, currently the youngest pupil at the school, and the oldest former pupil Roy King, of Whangarei.
Residents of Jack Boyd Drive held a meeting on March 27 to protest at what they called the "ridiculous" situation that Kaipara District Council had created by laying a sewer main down the street that has no terminal connections.
A 22-year commitment to rural health has earned Wellsford GP Dr Tim Malloy the Peter Snow Memorial Award.
