Tomarata takes the lead:By junior reporters, Briar Lomas and Olivia Cruickshank, of Tomarata School Tomarata School students have decided to take a stand against the armies of villains who pollute the environment. But the young pupils have not fought with sword and shield; instead they have fought with paintbrushes, plaques of ply and paint! The students have not won the battle yet but they are convinced that all their hard work will pay off in the long run. Room 1 students first sketched their draft plans then created pastel drawings. Leigh Lomas a talented artist from Tomarata helped them draw and paint the three designs that they had chosen. The signs have simple messages, bold lettering and bright colours. Two of the signs are featured at the intersection of Whangaripo Valley Rd and Wayby Valley Rd, The third sign is at the intersection of Mangawhai Rd and School Rd. If you are one of these meddling rubbish droppers then we ask you please to change your ways immediately. You should be ashamed! Reuse, reduce, remake and recycle. Editor’s Note: In the same week the signs were erected, teacher Brenda Salt reported that one of the signs was broken and taken out of the ground. “They were concreted in so it would have been a bit of a mission for someone to take it out,” she said. “We have rescued it and will try and get it re-erected.” In front of the eye-catching signs are, from left, Kristian McCracken, Sam Morrow and Eru Craig. |
