Wellsford Christmas ParadeTraffic on State Highway 1 through Wellsford came to a standstill on November 30 for the staging of the annual Santa Parade. Crowds lined the footpaths on both sides of Rodney Street to welcome the procession of floats and join in the festive atmosphere. Organisers estimate at least 4000 people of all ages turned out for this year’s event which attracted 30 entrants, the largest parade ever staged. “Wellsford Community got strongly behind it,” organiser Tony Sowden said. Wellsford Fire Brigade was the winner of the new Overall Best Float Trophy. Other winners: Business – ASB 1, PG Smith 2, and Rodney District Council 3. Children – Tomarata Playcentre 1, Toy Library 2, Wellsford Plunket 3. Community – Wellsford Fire Brigade 1, Citizens Advice Bureau 2, and St John 3. Next year’s parade will be held on November 27.
