Mangawhai walkers ready for weekend

Mangawhai’s popular walking weekend celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with four days of walks and entertainment from March 26 to 29.

A choice of more than 30 walks is available, although some are already fully booked. Organiser Jean Goldschmidt says people should book early or risk disappointment.

Brochures detailing the weekend’s attractions are available at the Mangawhai information centre, or online at www.mangawhaiwalkingweekend.co.nz.

New this year is a “troubadors’ trail”, described as a community walk around Mangawhai Heads with entertainers positioned at various points along the way. Tickets are available from the Mangawhai Beach Primary School or online.

Also included for the first time is a guided kayak journey on the estuary and a 25km mountain bike ride at Te Arai Point. A special anniversary celebration will be held on Friday, March 27 at Bennetts’ market square in Moir Street.

Several Mangawhai accommodation providers are offering packages, which include tickets to the wine and food event on the Saturday, walks, two nights’ accommodation, breakfasts and lunches.
