Mayor says ‘get on your bike’

Mangawhai residents are invited to join Kaipara District Council Mayor Neil Tiller on a two kilometre cycle ride on Saturday, February 21.

It will be the first time that Mangawhai has participated in the annual Bike Wise event, which challenges mayors nationwide to get the greatest number of people cycling behind them. It’s also an opportunity for residents to show their support for cycling in their district.

Each participant earns a point which will be tallied to determine, which region is the most “cycle mad” within its category, according to size of population.
Celebrities, such as the mayor, earn bonus points and there are special prizes for the best dressed bike with a sea creatures theme. Each participant will have the chance to win an Avanti discovery bike, valued at $750.

Riders should meet at The Hub, Molesworth Drive, for the ride along Dune View Drive, which starts at 1pm. Registration is from 12.15pm onwards. Entry is free.
Mr Tiller will also be leading a 2.3km ride in Dargaville earlier the same day.
