Businesses back soccer

Manga_soccer.jpgWhen Mangawhai’s soccer teams hit the pitch on Saturdays they have the support of a number of local businesses.

Carter’s of Mangawhai sponsored the smart new strip worn by the open grade team and Four Square in the village is contributing chocolate bars. Matt Morley used timber supplied by Placemakers to make the goals at the domain, Horizon Electrical bought the nets, and John Davy, of Sarnia Engineering provided free labour to make the posts.

Star players each week receive a certificate and free meal from the Blue Marlin Takeaways, and Barry Markwick, of Bammas, supports the players by discounting gear. “It’s fantastic to see the community getting behind the teams,” co-president Nikki Harrop says. “We have amazing support and are so grateful.”

The club fields around 100 players, aged from four to almost 60 years.
