Process underway to appoint College Board
Elections to appoint a new board of trustees at Rodney College could be held in November.
School commissioner Collene Roche says that she is confident she will be able to recommend to the Ministry of Education that elections be scheduled then. Mrs Roche was appointed commissioner last August after the dismissal of the former board. The college held public meetings to outline the responsibilities required of potential board members last month and to explain the board’s role in the governance of the school. “It’s early days but I am hopeful that I can make that recommendation,” she says. “It’s another step along the way to rebuilding confidence in the school. We had a good response to the meetings from people interested in standing.” The Ministry’s regional manager Bruce Adin said an election would take place when the commissioner completed her tasks and the college was ready for a return to elected board governance. An election timeline takes 38 days from setting the process in train until a board takes office. “The commissioner steps aside seven days after the announcement of the election result.” The college is due an ERO Audit in term three. |
