Swing those sticks

Rodney Hockey is gathering momentum this year under the direction of local enthusiast Mark Carell.

Mark and his family have played competitive hockey and held umpire roles in the northern region for many years. He will coach the Rodney College team, as well as Rodney’s men’s team. About 10 percent of students at the college have signed up to play hockey this year.

A schedule of practise days and training sessions has been compiled for optimum performance and challenge.

Some fundraising events to support these teams will be held at La Padella, in Wellsford. Friday night meat raffles, quiz nights and three-course dinner events are in the pipeline to raise money for equipment and tournament costs.

Mark is also looking at opportunities to develop a social competition. Interest has come from the ladies, so indoor hockey is on the horizon.
Anyone interested in knowing more about the hockey scene in Rodney, competitive and social, can contact Mark Carell on 423 8449.
