Fantastic fibres on show in Matakana

Irene LawlorThe Creative Fibres Northland group will present its Fibres Naturally biennial exhibition at Matakana School hall, from May 30 to June 1.

Convenor and Kowhai Arts and Crafts president Rosemary Burnby says the exhibition will feature spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations, as well a natural fibre flax demonstration by a group of weavers from Te Hana.

More than 100 crafts people from Warkworth north will exhibit works including wall hangings, floor rugs, jerseys, fibre art and felted garments. Fibres used include alpaca, wool, possum, bamboo and silk.

Some items may be on sale and there will be an ‘instant sales’ corner where items can be purchased and taken on the day.

The exhibition is held in different locations in the north each year – it was last held in Rodney in 2001, when Wellsford was the host town.
Doors will be open from 9am to 4pm and entry is free.

Info: Rosemary on 425 0504.
