Meat and wool levy on discussion tableThe meeting is one of many being held throughout NZ in the lead up to the August vote on the levy. Chairman Mike Petersen says this is the first time that such a vote has been undertaken since Meat & Wool New Zealand was formed in 2004. “At a time when the dominant theme in the world today is the global recession, it is incredible that the future for our industry has never been brighter,” he says. “Population and income growth continues in our traditional and emerging markets, and consumers are embracing the need for our naturally produced, environmentally conscious, quality meat and wool products. “If we are to capture this opportunity, it will require all parts of the industry from farmers through to the consumer working together in a cohesive manner. Levy investments through Meat & Wool NZ play a key part in influencing the future of the meat and wool sector through mitigating risk and developing opportunities.” The Wellsford meeting will also include a seminar on the topic ‘achieving success in volatile times’. It will start with morning tea at 9.30am and wind-up around 2pm. Info: Gareth Baynham 09 430 2410 or 027 442 0556. Levy proposal documents and voting papers will be mailed to all farmers. Voting will close on Friday, August 28, with results likely to be known in early September. Mike Petersen will speak in Wellsford on June 2. |
