Reindeer expert wanted

‘Do you know where we can get a couple of new reindeer?’ is not a question you hear everyday.

But, that’s what Wellsford Promotions, in conjunction with the Lions Club of Wellsford, is chasing.

Lions secretary Tony Sowden says he is hoping the community may be able to help with the progressive upgrade of the Santa float.

“The purchase of the new Santa suit, which debuted last Christmas, was the first part of the upgrade,” he says. “We’re now looking at re-designing the trailer so that it is better balanced and reupholstering the inside of the float.”

However, the big challenge will be replacing the reindeer, which at present are one-dimensional and made of plywood. The float refurbishment team would like to use more life-like reindeer.

“Fibreglass might be one option, but it is fairly expensive. We thought maybe polystyrene reindeer might work, but really need the advice and input of people who know about these sorts of things.”
