Supermarket murmurs for Wellsford

A Rodney property developer hopes to see a supermarket open in Wellsford within 18 months.

Lars Palmgren, of Eurogroup, says he expects to submit a resource consent application to Rodney District Council within “a couple of months”.
Three sites have been identified, with a site in Worker Rd believed to be amongst them.

Mr Palmgren says the site has to be around 5000 to 6000sqm to accommodate a 2000sqm store, plus parking.

Asked which of the two major supermarket chains would operate in Wellsford – Progressive (Foodtown, Countdown and Woolworths) or Foodstuffs (NewWorld, PaknSave and Four Square) – Mr Palmgren said this had not been decided.
“We are the project ‘facilitators’,” he said.

He also did not rule out the possibility of the store being run independently of Progressive and Foodstuffs.
