Hospice shop appoints new manager
The recently-relocated Wellsford Hospice shop, in Rodney Street, has a new manager.
Gaye Ward took over from Sandy Dodd at the end of last month. Gaye has plenty of experience in the non-profit sector, having worked for the Variety Children’s Charity and as a volunteer coordinator at Ronald McDonald House, in Auckland. She has also worked in marketing for McDonald’s and Air New Zealand. She says she is thrilled to be taking over a brand new shop that has been “Sandy’s baby” for the last 18 months. “I’m looking forward to building on her good work and coming up with ways to generate even more income from the shop, which helps fund nursing services to the terminally ill in our district,” she says. “I’m also looking forward to getting to know the 40 volunteers who run the shop.” Gaye lives in Warkworth with her husband, Tony, who manages the Solway deer farm. Sandy is taking a break to recharge and wants more time to spend on acrylic painting.
