Mangawhai labour weekend art trail
Visitors to Mangawhai at Labour Weekend got a taste of what’s on offer during this month’s art trail, through a display of work by 30 artists in the Bennetts Chocolate shop foyer.
The exhibition featured paintings, sculptures, glass work, weaving and furniture. Visitors voted Stu and Di Vallis’ copper, steel and totara sculpture, a water feature called True Nature, their favourite piece, with Elena Nikolaeva’s mixed media painting Stroll without Goal judged runner-up. Around 70 members of the Mangawhai Artists’ Association will exhibit at 25 venues over the arts trail weekend, on November 21 and 22, from 10am-4pm daily. Guest artist Bev Taylor, from Kaiwaka, will be exhibiting at Penrose Farm, Old Waipu Road. Pupils from Mangawhai Beach School are holding an art auction in conjunction with the trail. A full list of those exhibiting and arts trail map is available from Bennetts chocolates, the Smashed Pipi Gallery and the Information Centre. For more information, visit www.mangawhaiartists.co.nz or phone Jenny Ashford, on 431 4984. Auckland visitors Bree (back) and Pita Campbell admire Stu and Di Vallis’ water feature, winner of the people’s choice award over Labour Weekend. |
