New Mangawhai domain producers summer market
Mangawhai’s newest market opened at the Mangawhai Domain, on Labour
About 80 stallholders touted their wares, offering everything from wine, beer, nuts and homemade baking, to artworks, secondhand goods, jewellery and a large selection of clothing. One of the organisers Sue Martin said she and co-organiser Maria Northin were amazed at the response. “The stallholders were mostly local, but some came from South Auckland and Whangarei,” she said. “The domain is a great venue as it gives people room to spread out and parking is not a problem.”Future markets will be held on November 22 and December 20; and there will be two market days in January and February; with the final market day for the season marked down for Easter. Meanwhile, Mangawhai’s Wood St Sunday markets will be held weekly from December 6 through to mid-February. Organiser Jan Mann says the market, which Enquiries from potential new stallholders are welcome. “We’re a friendly group who enjoyed a very successful Labour Weekend market,” she said. Stalls for the summer market cost $20. Info: Jan Mann, phone 431 2241. The Mangawhai Farmers Market continues to be held in the Old Library Hall, in the village, on Saturday mornings. Top: Stallholder Heather Levack, of Tara Road, started selling Mangawhai tea towels because the area “lacked its own souvenirs”. She screen-prints the tea towels with a Nora West design and donates 50 cents from every sale to the Fair Tern Trust. Middle: Katy and Dave Whitaker, of Waipu, did a roaring trade in the sale of their fresh macadamia nuts – plain, honey-dipped and chocolate coated. Bottom: There was plenty of room for everyone at the Domain market. |
