Kaipara plan sets rules on development
Future growth and development in Mangawhai will be the subject of a meeting at the Mangawhai Domain Hall on Saturday, October 31.
The meeting is being organised by Kaipara District Council to discuss the proposed District Plan, the primary document that manages land use and development within Kaipara. The plan is reviewed every 10 years and governs how land can be used. Mayor Neil Tiller says it has been designed to protect the Kaipara and Mangawhai Harbours, and the tributaries and waterways which feed them. “It will also make it easy for people to set up business in the Kaipara,” he says. “We want to manage the effects of what people do with their land, instead of simply trying to ban specific types of development. We are also proposing to allow people to divide land into smaller lots, provided they can offer an environmental or heritage benefit in exchange.” The District Plan also highlights future growth areas – implementing the Mangawhai Structure Plan, as well as proposing structure plan reviews in other urban areas starting with Kaiwaka. Cr Tiller says Engineering Standards have also been updated and will provide clear guidelines for developers. Hard copies of the plan are available at Kaipara libraries. Open forums to discuss the proposal will be held at Paparoa Hall on October 29 at 6pm and at the Mangawhai Domain Hall on Saturday, October 31, at 10am. Submissions open on October 21 and close on December 18. |
