Wharehine Hall’s golden celebrationThe celebrations start with a photo display and DVD presentation of early life in the district, which will be held at the hall, in Pah Hill Road, on Friday October 9, at 7pm. Entry is $5 and includes supper. The hall will be open again on Saturday October 10 from 10am to 2pm for viewing of displays. Then in the evening, from 6pm, it will be the venue for a dinner dance, featuring live band Double Direction. Tickets, limited to 50, are $35. The celebration will conclude on Sunday, October 11, with the annual spring service at the historic Minnesdale Chapel, on Shegadeen Road, overlooking the Kaipara Harbour. This will be followed by afternoon tea at the hall. The Reverends Jim and Mollie Pascoe, recently retired to Mangawhai, will conduct the service at 1.30pm. Hall secretary Barbara Lane says the society is looking for photos of people and events relating to Wharehine and surrounding areas to preserve in the Albertland and Districts Museum archives. Information and tickets: Phone Barbara Lane on 423 8187 or Lyn Johnston on 423 8954. Minnesdale Chapel hosts spring service. |
