Managing Auckland's spread - July
One of the many rules for the new Auckland Council is that it must create a “spatial plan” to inform the future growth of the region. Rodney is a desirable place to live so growth needs careful management.
Choosing a Candidate - June
The new Auckland Council replaces seven local councils and the ARC, and creates a whole new organisation with a mix of local and regional functions.
Beyond cars – May
Transport infrastructure shapes our communities and economy. It represents a huge rates and tax investment, can encourage or impede social connectivity and active lifestyles, and can frustrate or support good urban design and amenity.
Ocean care needed - April
Seaweek ran from March 6 – 14 with a focus on “fish for the future”. It was celebrated by community beach clean ups, marine talks, free guided snorkelling at Goat Island, and film screenings. Behind all this must lie a real concern with the state of our oceans.
Conservation takes a step forward – March
Local efforts to create mainland islands on regional parks have national and international benefits. Every back garden habitat contributes to ecological health and wider networks such as the North West Wildlink and more organic flyways and nature corridors.
Summer reflections on Rodney – February
