Tractor collection uniquely rural

tractors2_1.jpgSome people collect stamps, while others prefer bottles or coins. But then there are farmers such as Brian Mason, of Tomarata, who has a collection of tractors.

At this stage he has six in working order and another six that are still running, but it in various stages of repair.

The oldest is a 1946 Fordson E27N which he bought in Kumeu. He also has a relatively rare 1946 Minneapolis Moline with a hand clutch, 1948 Nuffield 10/42 in near-pristine condition, a McCormick-Deering Farmall H&M and a 1948 John Deere Model M, 18hp with a two-cylinder petrol engine.

“I still use them around the farm to do odd jobs like raking hay,” Brian says. “I’d like more opportunities to show them.” Brian’s shed also houses a ’37 Dodge 6.
