Communication key for Council - May

As we come up to halfway through this first Auckland Council term it’s clear to me we must communicate better. The small monthly Aucklander publication is nowhere near enough. Unless you know where to look on the Council’s website or find the answer in the newspaper it may be difficult to locate the information you want.

Cutting costs - February

This year Auckland Council is focused on how we implement the Auckland Plan and the other plans like the Waste Plan and Long Term Plan (10 year budget). There are big opportunities for Council to take a lead and make savings across its water, waste and energy. In house I work with a sustainability team putting in place many hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings across the organisation.

Building on World Cup momentum - October

With many others I enjoyed the South Africa/Namibia rugby clash at the North Harbour Stadium. The sound of the spectators was heartening, the stadium facility performed well, transport to and from the game worked and the volunteers I spoke with were as helpful as could be.

Local projects take priority

Auckland Council is finding its feet as Councillors, Local Board members and staff adapt to a completely different structure. At the same time the pressure is on to keep rates down while still delivering on services and making progress.

Opportunity knocks with new Council

The Hibiscus Coast has much to gain from the new Auckland Council. There will be fresh opportunities to improve the liveability of our communities and benefit from the extension of programmes from elsewhere in Auckland to our area. Public transport improvements, eco-initiatives, cost savings, planning re-thinks and safer communities are all likely wins.
