Kawau Rescue out and about - February Coastguard Kawau has had its busiest summer since the unit was established in 1997 demonstrating the importance of Kawau Rescue, a 10.3 metre rigid hulled inflatable boat launched in May last year. Busy summer - January The lead up to Christmas 2010 has probably been one of the busiest ever for Coastguard Kawau volunteers with the units dedicated rescue vessel Kawau Rescue called out to everything from flat batteries to overdue divers, an outboard engine fire and a grounding – and that was only up until Boxing Day. 2010Final touches - MayIncidents to Coastguard during May were down, but we have been amusing ourselves with some fun stuff like the best caption competition. Callouts keep coming - April It’s been another busy month with a number of callouts for boats with a range of electrical and mechancial problems, as well as boats taking on water and some who’d run out of fuel. Steady calls as boat settles in – March Incidents for January have just arrived and call outs have been as steady as the weather lately. Busy on the water – February Our Coastguard unit alone attended 10 incidents from December 21 to January 3, two being medical emergencies and the rest mechanical problems requiring tows. Learning the new boat – January Incidents this month have decreased, but they will no doubt pick up as the holiday period continues. |
