One Warkworth – Support local business

As I write this column, the world is facing many uncertainties with the spread of COVID-19 and the response to it is changing hourly. By the time this goes to print, the landscape will undoubtedly be different, and I hope all New Zealanders are pulling together and holding strong against the spread of the disease.

To our local businesses, please keep informed about recommended workplace responses to COVID-19 and the financial assistance being offered by the government. There is a dedicated COVID-19 website (www.covid19.govt.nz) and comprehensive information for businesses at www.business.govt.nz.

One Warkworth is meeting other community organisations on a localised response, but in the meantime it is hugely important that we support our local businesses wherever possible. Take the recommended precautions, but do shop and do business locally. Stay home if you’re sick.

At this point, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the voters who supported establishing a business improvement district (BID) for Warkworth. From July 1, the BID model will give us much needed resources to continue the work we do – building a strong business community together.

A special thanks to our manager Murray Chapman who has been the face of One Warkworth on the ground leading up to and during the BID campaign. Without doubt, Murray’s dedication and leadership encouraged many local businesses to support the BID and for that the committee is hugely grateful.

One Warkworth has a challenging few months ahead of us before we transition to the BID. Resources are tight. In these exceptional times we know we are going to have our work cut out for us as we look to support the local business community and the community at large. If you need help, or you can help us help others, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Now more than ever we really do need to be stronger together.
