There will be no Christmas in the Village festivities in Matakana this year. Amanda Stewart, who looks after marketing for the Matakana Village complex, says staging the event really needs impetus and support from community groups to guarantee numbers and attract food and drink suppliers. In the past, performances by Matakana Primary School students have been central to celebrations, but this year students and staff have been focusing on a major dance show at the school and other activities.
