The Mangawhai Lions Club is continuing its impressive winning streak, adding another award to its trophy cabinet.
The club was presented with the Lions Marketing, PR and Communications award at the recent Lions Club national convention in Ashburton, beating more than 700 other clubs to take out the accolade for the second year running.
“It is a great honour to win the award. We are one of the newest clubs in our part of the country, so it’s been very important for us to let the community know that we exist and that we are out there if they ever need anything,” club marketing coordinator Mandy Hebben says.
This award follows the club’s win of the prestigious Lions International Marketing Award last year.
“It’s really nice to get recognised by your peers that you are doing a great job. It is a lot of work, but it is really rewarding,” Hebben says.
The club was also acknowledged for its recycling project at Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ), where it was highly commended in the top club service project award.
The initiative has seen the club recycle between 100kg and 200kg of aluminium cans each month from the recycling cage. All proceeds go back into MAZ for the upkeep of the playground.
