
A total of 375 submissions on the subdivision of the Hammerhead, at Gulf Harbour Marina, 370 of which are against, demonstrate the depth of public feeling.
Stories featured in Hibiscus Matters (February 3 and 17) and there was a push for submissions by Crs Wayne Walker and John Watson who lead a public meeting attended by more than 200 people.
The Hibiscus & Bays Local Board engaged a planner to make a submission.
Submissions closed on February 19; one was in support and four were neutral, with all others opposed.
Eleven late submissions also came in.
The land will be subdivided and leased to Gulf Harbour Investments following a High Court decision in 2009, and although this is inevitable, the resource consent process is an opportunity for people to make their feelings known.
The area is a transport and recreational hub. The hearing will be before independent commissioners at a date yet to be set.
