Helping hand extended

A new Facebook page has been set up to help anyone on the Hibiscus Coast who may be struggling and need a helping hand.

Orewa teacher Matt Cade started the HBC Community Help page with Sue Howlett and Clare Hoyle. He says from day one, there was no shortage of people offering to help.

He says the difficulty is actually connecting with people who want assistance.

Working within the restrictions to keep everyone safe, the page can be a way to link people with correct official information and help them access food and essential services. He says they would like to help people in isolation, if they are lonely, to link up with locals who can call them on the phone to check in regularly.

Matt says he is making contact with a similar Auckland group and the Student Volunteer Army, which is now working around the country.

“I know there are a lot of locals helping each other, and information already out there, but if that’s not working for someone we may be able to fill that gap,” he says.
