Silverdale School will phase out its intermediate classes (Years 7 and 8), following a decisions announced last month.
Silverdale School was notified by the Ministry of Education on May 17 that it had lost its fight to retain its intermediate classes.
This will be the final year that the school has both Years 7 and 8.
Next year it will have Year 8 only. In 2019 it will become a “contributing school” (Years 1–6). Meanwhile, Gulf Harbour School’s board of trustees has submitted an application to drop its Year 7 and 8 classes (known as “decapitation”) to the Ministry.
Principal Mel Crosbie says that three percent of the school community responded to a recent survey on the issue and only five parents attended a consultation evening on May 15.
The Ministry will advise Gulf Harbour School of its final decision on the decapitation in due course.
