Kauri proposals aired in Orewa

Proposals for managing kauri dieback will be presented and discussed at a meeting in Orewa on Monday, March 11.

The Kauri Dieback Programme is a partnership with Biosecurity NZ, DOC, iwi and Councils in affected areas, including Auckland Council.

The team will present its proposed National Pest Management Plan and seek public input at a meeting at the Orewa Arts & Events Centre, Orewa College, 80 Riverside Road, Orewa, 7pm-9.30pm.

The proposed plan includes a set of rules that could affect the way you access kauri forests, or require you to carry out actions to protect kauri if you have kauri forest on your land.

In particular, the team is seeking views on how workable its proposals are, and the impacts they might have on the community, iwi, local businesses or group.

Following this consultation round final recommendations will be made to ministers.

Consultation runs from 18 February to 18 March 2019. Info: www.kauridieback.co.nz/
