A concept design for the 14ha Metro Park West in Millwater was selected by the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board at its meeting on February 20.
The chosen design is a refinement of the original concept plan called Meadow & Creek (HM February 1). Meadow and Creek was the most popular design with the 101 people who made submissions on the options.
The final design includes a playground, parking, fruit trees, native plantings including groves of puriri trees, and an extensive planting of pohutukawa. Provision has been made for both small and large events to take place in the park.
The estimated cost of creating the park is $9.1million, although further funding could be needed to complete the entire concept.
Detailed design, site investigation work and resource consenting will now get underway. Construction is expected to commence towards the end of this year and be staged, with completion not expected until 2024.
