Stanmore Bay toilets reopen

The closure of public toilets as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown had to be reconsidered because of the needs of essential transport workers and homeless people.

As a result, 57 public toilets across Auckland have been reopened including two on the Hibiscus Coast – the one in Army Bay, opposite the entrance to Shakespear Regional Park, and the one in Stanmore Bay Reserve.

Councillor John Watson says he understands that the Stanmore Bay Reserve toilet has just been reopened (or will be soon) because of its central position on the peninsula and because there are homeless people in the area who need the facility.

The public toilets that are now open are getting extra cleaning and are open 24/7. Covid-19 notices are displayed stating the reason the toilets are open, and that Auckland Council does not want the general public to use them during the lockdown.
