Transport plans to be unveiled

Infrastructure, or lack of it, is a hot topic on the Hibiscus Coast as development continues to add hundreds of new homes.

High interest is therefore expected in plans for new transport networks in the area, which are being put forward by Auckland Transport, Auckland Council and the NZ Transport Agency.

The suggested networks to cater for growth over the next 30 years will be presented to the public at two local events this week – one at Silverdale Rugby Club and the other at Diary Flat School.

Cr Wayne Walker says at this stage feedback is needed on residents’ transport priorities and what people think about the ideas being considered.

Auckland Transport Key Strategic Initiatives Project Director, Theunis van Schalkwyk says AT is also working closely with developers to deliver new transport for special housing areas as they are built.

“This work is focused on identifying new and upgraded transport infrastructure for future housing and business areas which will be built on land that is currently rural,” he says.

The options are expected to include a mix of public transport, new or upgraded roads, footpaths and cycleways, upgraded state highways and “smarter use of existing infrastructure”.

Face to face consultation is on March 3 at Silverdale Rugby Club, 6 Hibiscus Coast Highway, 3.30pm–7.30pm and on March 5 at Dairy Flat School, 1220 Dairy Flat Highway, 10am–2pm.
