Win for Coast ambassador

Jennifer Palmer receives her regional Young Ambassador prize certificate from Frank King-Turner, Lions District 202K Vice Governor, of Wellsford.

Orewa College student Jennifer Palmer took out first place in an international competition for young people judged on leadership skills and community service.

The finals of the Lions Young Ambassador were on October 8 and 9 and saw Jennifer up against finalists from throughout the Lions District 202K region; this consists of nine zones and stretches from the Coromandel to Cape Reinga and includes Samoa, American Samoa, Fiji and Tonga.

Second place was Chavi Breja from South Auckland, and Mihi Shepherd from Whangarei came in third.

Just making the final was a huge achievement, as there were a number of strong contenders for the regionals, held in September, from Coast and Rodney colleges. Students were judged on their community service and leadership, based on their CV, an interview and speech.

Jennifer’s prize is $1500 to be used for further education.
