Chance to spot sealife at guided snorkel day

Summer’s here, and that means Experiencing Marine Reserves’ free community snorkelling days are back, where children and adults are given guided underwater tours of marine wildlife haunts.

The next local event is on Sunday, December 2 at Whangateau Harbour, between 1.30pm and 5pm, where those taking part have the chance to discover crabs, triplefins, parore and yellow-eyed mullet as they are guided through the mangroves and shallows. People can bring their own gear or get free hire of masks, snorkels, fins and wetsuits.

There is no charge to take part, but donations are appreciated, and all children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult beach observer. Registration will take place on the day, or online in advance at eventbrite.co.nz (search for Whangateau Snorkel Day).
